Coconut oil - did you know you can do so many things with it? You can wear it, cook with it, clean with it, use it as toothpaste or deo, hair mask and many more. However, I was very interested in its cleansing properties, apparently it can take your make-up off just as good as a make-up remover. Fairly early on in my blog I did a post about my skincare routine - well I can honestly say it's changed! I now don't use any potions or lotions to take my make-up off, I just use one product - the above jar of Vita Coco Coconut Oil. I didn't believe people when they said it could do all these fabulous things equally effectively, but it does. Not only does it take it off with ease but it also leaves your skin & eye lashes moisturised and doesn't dry out your face at all. After I have taken my make-up off I do just splash a bit of water over my face though to get a little bit of the residue off my face but it doesn't take away all the goodness and the moisture it gives my skin (just the top shiny layer of oil).
The beauty with this - it's just one jar that does the job of two or three products, and it does it fabulously! It takes foundation and mascara off with no problems. There is no continuous waste like using one or two face wipes a day or spreading your product over 3 or 4 pieces of cotton wool (better on the planet right?!). This will certainly be a permanent edition for me (it smells BLOOMING amazing too!). Any brand of Coconut Oil will work, they are all the same pretty much but if you were looking for a recommendation - I can thoroughly endorse Vita Coco! It's organic, natural and raw (natural & raw is sure to have no nasty ingredients thrown in). Oh and one more thing - it smells DIVINE! (did I mention that?!).
To go with my more eco-way to take the days make-up off, I decided I wanted something I could reuse with the coconut oil to take it off, like cotton wool but not so wasteful! Lizzie over at Caring Cosmetic told me about the above products - Washable Cleaning Pads from Love The Planet. They do the same thing as cotton wool but are reusable (gives you this idea through the name!) but what a great product. I have had these for about 3/4 weeks now and washed them many times and they are holding up tremendously. Very durable, and they haven't differed in texture with washing which is good (as I thought they might get a bit rougher with more washes and so be too harsh for the eye area). The best thing about these are you're not adding to any landfill or waste.
These two products are all it takes to take the cake of the day off my face and I love them! The coconut oil can be purchased on Amazon at (currently) £4.99 (usually £5.99) for a 250ml jar. The Washable Cleaning Pads are £7.75 for a pack of 5 with a wash bag (this seems a lot initially but for the quality product and if you think you probably spend £3/£4 on cotton wool or face wipes a month it's a saving in the long run for sure!).
Both are very wise investments for me, I'm so happy I gave the coconut oil a go and the washable pads are just logical! And of course, both products are cruelty-free and suitable for vegans.
