Finally I got back to The Oak Tree Market Restaurant. I was last at this lovely place back in January 30th 2015, my boyfriend Dan had organised a surpirse 25th birthday party for me there with all my chums. This was the perfect venue for me, recently turning Vegetarian it was ideal! (and it was also SO lovely of him to organise it). On Thursday, we managed to get back there for a 'date night' (always good to set a few hours aside when you can, commitments can get in the way quite a lot, we needed some us time!). This place was as lovely as I remember it (even though it has had a bit of a refurbishment & change around) it still had a great atmosphere, there was a pianist playing which really added a certain ambiance (they have a pianist there every Thursday for future reference). With their new refurbishment they have also added many more Vegan dishes to their Vegetarian menu which is just scrumptious!
Starter of Avocado salad was just what my taste buds ordered! A nice light salad to start with is always good, the plate wasn't too full so I didn't fill up before my main meal. This is obviously a Vegetarian meal because of the Mozzarella, I did thoroughly enjoy & I LOVE avocado! My starter is priced at £5 & this is also Gluten Free.
Main course was Pest Gnocchi, now I had never had this before but I liked the sound of it! Italian potato dumplings with basil pesto, fresh basil, asparagus & pine nuts. Served with garlic ciabatta & salad - yum no? Well I can confirm it was! This was also a Vegan dish so even better! (On ALL the dishes there is a letter denoting its status - vegan etc, very handy!) This dish was a pure taste sensation and there was nothing left on the plate. Priced at £8 this was well worth the money.
Desert was a Apple & Blackberry pie with a side serving of Vegan ice cream (unfortunately, by the time I remembered I should take a photo for this very blog post I had already devoured most of the pie! Hence the empty plat, whoops!)It was so delicious I couldn't wait to tuck in. I didn't catch the price of the deserts (& quite frankly it didn't matter, it was so delicious, you can't put a price on these things!)
ALL of their alcoholic drinks & soft drinks are Vegan - including their wine which is sourced from the wine shop down the road called Vino Vero (keeping it local!). My dinner was accompanied by two Vegan Fentimans Rose Lemonades. This restaurant is very reasonably priced, has great quality food and has a lovely atmosphere. If you're from Southend/Leigh and haven't tried it - DO! If you're visiting, also do it. It's not just for veggies or vegans, my boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed his food and he is neither. they do some fabulous themed nights so check them out!
